Dalits are people which consist a major part of indian population.They belong to a human race calle d proto australoid.These groups are also seen in pakistan,nepal,bangladesh,srilanka etc.They live in very worst conditions.In India,they have been considered as untouchables foor hundreds of years.The so called upper castes in the country treated them as animals .Once dalits were not allowed to walk through public roads.They were not even allowed to fetch water from public ponds or wells.Dalit children were barred fom the schools due to the untouchability .Leaders like Babasaheb Dr.Ambedkar and Ayyankali fought against these evils of the society .Evenhthough after sixty years after Independance,we cannot say proudly about social equality.Within these years Dr.K.R.Narayanan and Justice K.G.Balakrishnan are the dalits who attained the high posts,The President of India and The Chief Justice of India respectively.
